Keeping the World Turning: A Video Workshop on Gender and Care During the Pandemic

Keeping the World Turning: A Video Workshop on Gender and Care During the Pandemic

What is the Workshop?

This workshop is for women involved in care and housework, whether their labour is paid or not. For example, cooking, cleaning, elder care, childrearing and shopping, but also building and sustaining the spaces where care is organised collectively: nurseries, social kitchens, playgrounds, parks and so on.

The workshop will facilitate discussions around the value of care and housework. We will focus on their gendered nature, and on what is changing and what isn’t as a result of the Covid pandemic. In parallel, the workshop will involve video training and filming activities, both individual and in groups. Through these, it will create a space for more playful exploration of these themes. The materials produced during the workshop will form the body of a short film that explores objects of care and housework, as they are changing with the pandemic.

Details

The 4 sessions will take place on Monday evenings at 19.30-21.00 EET (GMT/UTC +2). The first session is on May 10 followed by May 17, 24 and 31. Sessions will be run on the Zoom platform in English (unfortunately no translation into Greek will be offered). Between sessions 1 and 3, participants will be asked to do short activities at home that should take roughly 30 mins.

In order to create an intimate space in which participants can feel comfortable working together, space is limited to 10 people who are able to commit to being there for each of the 4 sessions. The workshops are free to attend, no stipend is available for participants. If you would like to take part, please fill in the online application here before April 26th 2021.
